Exhibition hall «Nikos Gaitis», Pyrgos, Tinos
Stavros Charisopoulos uses the landscape as his artistic subject, studying and revealing many of its secrets. This time he chooses the Island of Tinos to demonstrate the archetypal non-deformed landscape combined with the island’s structured environment, the latter being an inseparable part of the island’s distinct topography.
Although human presence is absent, it has left its mark. Passing from the “void” to the implied “presence”, the imprint neither eliminates nor weakens the objects; on the contrary, they prevail by imposing unforeseen “disharmonies” in the frame.
The underlined symmetry, the frontal perspective, the playfulness of the analogies and of the volume are used by the photographer to create abstract syntheses with a Doric simplicity.
Stavros Charisopoulos’ new project is another piece of the puzzle of his personal documentation which is about his artistic approach to the environment and all the structural elements that create it.
